🔜Fortelling 4.1

The next chapter for Fortelling. (Coming on September 29)

What is new in Fortelling 4.1?

Fortelling 4.1 brings fresh ways to personalize your writing environment. This update introduces new ready-made themes, custom theme creation, and layout font options so you can fully adjust how the app looks while you write.

What are the new themes?

We added several new themes to give you more variety in style and atmosphere. Themes control the color palette of your workspace and help set the mood for your writing sessions.

  • Choose from 12 animal-inspired themes such as Fire Salamander, Raven, or Red Panda.

  • Filter themes by dark, light, subtle, or prominent styles.

  • Switch easily between themes to fit your mood or the story you are working on.

How do custom themes work?

Custom themes let you design your own look for Fortelling. Instead of choosing only from presets, you can make a theme that matches your style.

  • Answer quick setup questions about your writing preferences.

  • Pick colors for your background, cards, and accents.

  • Save your design and switch to it anytime.

  • Free options: Default font and OpenDyslexic.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my story elements no longer on the homescreen?

The app now only displays your favorite elements on the home screen carousel. Not only your first tool, but all tools in a category will now be displayed in this carousel. This gives you more control to configure your dashboard.

How to recover my projects?

Sorry about that! There was a bug that hid some of your projects. Fortunately, this was fixed in update 4.0.3.

We want to stress that no data is lost. In this update, we make a new copy of all your Fortelling data. Your original projects created in 3.4 are safe and untouched. If you encounter a bug, please reach out to us, and you can migrate the project again once the bug is fixed.

I dislike the new layout, can I reverse back?

With the latest update, the layout was updated for all users to support upcoming features and improve overall performance. Currently, it's not possible to revert to the previous version.

If anything feels unintuitive or gets in the way of your workflow, please let us know. We’re happy to guide you through the new layout or help you find what you need. Your feedback also helps us continue to improve.

Where did my images go?

Fortelling 4.0 merged the notes and images into the new files tool. This also allows you to organize your pictures into folders, just like any other file (e.g., PDF).

How can I change a label?

The label management screen has moved to the project settings. However, you can manage your labels in the pop-up when selecting a label.

Pro tip: Double-tap a label in the selection screen to open it for editing.

Why are some words still in English after changing languages?

Unfortunately, the translation platform we used got hacked, and all translations of Fortelling 4.0 got deleted. This results in the 4.0 update being released without your hard work's translations. We're genuinely sorry, but this is completely out of our hands. We hope to launch an update soon, so Fortelling can remain accessible in your language.

How do I see the changelog in the app?
  1. Open the app menu

  2. Tap on "What's new?"

How to use the in-app bug report tool?

A new popover will appear; follow these steps. Make sure to leave your email if you want us to contact you.
